The Dragon Conspiracy wins 2015 RT Best Urban Fantasy Novel!

Uncategorized Add comments

I’m thrilled to announce (finally, since I’ve had to keep it under wraps) that The Dragon Conspiracy (aka SPI Files #3) has won the 2015 Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice Award for Best Urban Fantasy Novel! Yep, that’s a mouthful, but it’s also a big award. I was honored to be nominated, and I’m thrilled to win. : )

I hadn’t planned on going to the RT Convention this year (we had to replace our entire HVAC system this winter), but when I was notified that I’d won the award, I changed my mind. Derek and I will be flying in to Vegas on Friday afternoon, April 15, and attending the awards ceremony that night from 7-9. I believe there’s a reception afterward. Since I originally hadn’t planned on going, there’s no spaces left at the Book Fair on Saturday, so I won’t be taking part in that. However, I’ll be around the hotel. We’ll be leaving Sunday morning. If you’re going to RT and would like to meet me, either respond here or email me. I’ll do my best to set something up. If you can’t be at RT, rest assured I’ll be posting photos to my Twitter, FB, and Instagram accounts.

On to other news . . .I haven’t been posting because I’ve been writing, and writing, and writing. The 4th SPI Files book, The Ghoul Vendetta, is due to Penguin on Friday, April 1. That’s two weeks from this Friday. I’ve been putting in some 12-hour days to get it done on time. My last day at my day job of 16 years is this Friday, the 18th.

About the audio version of Wedding Bells, Magic Spells — Due to lackluster sales of the audio version of the Raine Benares series, Audible opted not to extend an offer to record Wedding Bells, Magic Spells. However, there is a way that I could self-publish it. I haven’t had time to look into it because of the deadline. After April 1, I promise to take a look at what it would involve. I do know from my agent that it’d be expensive, and I’d have to pay for it myself. I promise to look into it to see if it’s something I can afford to do.

That’s all the news!

Back to the deadline salt mines . . .

Huzzah!!!! What fabulous news! This made my night 🙂

And you’re quitting the day job? Congrats! Congrats twice!

  5. Lydia says:

No surprise to me! What took them so long? So well deserved. Congratulations!
I’m just a bit confused about the “numbers”: Did you forget about “Brimstone”? Oh well – never mind – I’m just anxiously waiting for “The Ghoul Vendetta”.
I’m very happy for you to not have the pressure of a “day-job” pretty soon. Trying to keep your fans happy should be enough!

    Thank you, Deborah and Lydia!

The award was for books published in 2015. Brimstone just came out in 2016. It might be in the running for the 2016 award. ; )

Well deserved. Very happy for you. It is great when hard work pays off.

PS Studies have shown that chocolate bunnies and Peeps increase authors writing speed and efficiency by 3.44 percent. So feel free to indulge. (I have a doctorate so I can make up any statistics I want.)

Thank you, Joe! Mmmmm, chocolate bunnies and peeps. . .
