These are busy times

I’ve been a busy girl, and I’ll continue to be busy. Here’s some of what I’m doing now and have coming up in the next two months:

Page proofs for ALL SPELL BREAKS LOOSE are finished and turned in! I did them last weekend (and Monday) in a record-breaking (for me) three days.

I’m working hard on the new series premise, plot synopsis(es) for three books, and the first two chapters of the first book in my new urban fantasy/supernatural thriller series. My agent Kristin Nelson has seen what I have so far and I have her enthusiastic vote of approval. Whew! It’s always a relief to know that the series you’re excited about writing doesn’t suck.

Writing the submission package (see above) for the new series is taking most of my time; the rest is consumed by reading for research. Not all of it’s dry reading. I’m plowing through some what’s already been published that’s remotely similar to what I want to do, so that I know what’s already been done to death. I then avoid those elements like the plague.

I just finished reading LIBRIOMANCER, the upcoming (in August) awesome fantasy by my writer buddy Jim C. Hines. He asked if I would read it for a blurb; I read the first few pages, and immediately said yes. Here’s a link to Jim’s site to get more info.

I also just finished and turned in (two days ago) my latest column for THE WRITER magazine. It’s entitled “Research — How much is too much?” Which is timely as heck for me right now.

Working with my publicist at Penguin this week to set up a blog tour of 20 review blogs to promote the publication of ALL SPELL BREAKS LOOSE. I’ll be doing an interview each day (Monday-Friday) for the two weeks leading up to the book release date, AND the two weeks after the release date as well. That’s a heck of a lot of work for me, but I really want to give ALL SPELL all the promo help I can.

I’ll be meeting in the next week or so with my web developer about updates/upgrades to my website — and to set the wheels in motion to post the first three chapters from ALL SPELL BREAKS LOOSE.

I’m also amassing prizes for the contests that I’ll be running in connection with the release of ALL SPELL.

Beginning next Monday (February 27) I’ll be doing Snippet Monday for ALL SPELL BREAKS LOOSE. For those of you not familiar with that, I’ll be posting a fun snippet from the book every Monday until the book is published.

Prepping for going to the Romantic Times Booklovers Convention in Chicago on April 11-15. I’m looking forward to meeting a lot of you there. PLEASE do NOT be shy about coming up to me and introducing yourself. You guys are a big reason why I’m attending this year. I want to meet my fans. So don’t leave me and Derek standing there all alone.

I’ll be having a phone meeting next Monday night with Eileen Stevens, the “Voice of Raine” in the Audible audio books of my series. She likes to chat with me to make sure she has all the pronunciations right before the recording session.

Oh, and then there’s my full-time day job. ; )

I’ll try to post once a week to give you any updates/news/etc. Sorry for not being able to post every day like I used to, but it’s just gotten to be too much. I know you would rather have great books rather than a daily blog.

Back to work,
Lisa

Wow, you are so busy! I really can’t wait for the book… when are you posting chapters 1-3?

BTW- My birthday is Thursday. Could you please post something for it? Please? (If no, that’s totally ok. You’re still the best.)

    Hi Janet,

My web designer and I are trying to set up a meeting to go over website updates (including posting the first three chapters). I’m hoping we can get the chapters up within the next few weeks to a month.

Happy Birthday, sweetie!!!!! Have a great one!

    Lisa

I got my “goodies”. Thank you so very much!!! I think that this qualifies as a birthday present for me. ~g~ My birthday was on Feb 13. Can’ t wait until ASBL is in my hot little hands. I’m quite sure that this story will be a barnburner! Go Raine!!!

  9. Lisa Shearin says:

You’re most welcome, Doug! I hope to have the sample chapters up within the month.

  10. Tiffany says:

Lisa-I am not sure how you are keeping all of these balls in the air but thank you so much for your great books and goodies that you have for your fans. I’m so glad that I found your books in a secondhand book store long ago (though I think I bough new copies). Now I buy your books in the regular bookstore or online and will encourage my local library to do the same!

On another note, will this be the last Raine novel? Or can we expect more adventures from her?

  11. Lisa Shearin says:

Aww, Tiffany, you’re so sweet! ALL SPELL BREAKS LOOSE is the end of the Saghred storyline, but rest assured, I have plenty of Raine & Company books floating around in my head. I’m merely taking a little break to get another series going. : )
